Kinesio tapping

Kinesio Tapping

Kinesiology tape (KT) is a therapeutic tool and is becoming increasingly popular in the sports arena. The tape has been used for a long time to prevent and treat sports injuries. It is used not only for sports injuries, but also for various other conditions. Japanese chiropractor dr. Kenzo Kase developed this technique in the 1970s with the intention of relieving pain and speeding up soft tissue recovery.

These are some of the many benefits of tapping:
• proprioceptive relief;
• reduced muscle fatigue;
• reduced delayed onset muscle pain;
• inhibition of pain;
• accelerates scar healing
• helps hematoma healing (bruising)
• improving lymphatic drainage and blood flow.

Kinesio tapes imitate the physical quality of the skin because they are the same weight and thickness as the epidermis and have special elastic properties. The tape consists of a polymer elastic wrapped in 100% cotton fibers, which allows moisture to evaporate.

Glue is activated in contact with heat and applied with a wave pattern so it could mimic fingerprint property. The tape is waterproof and breathable, so it can be worn while exercising, showering, and even swimming.

It is suitable for all skin types and conditions, contains a hypoallergenic glue base, which leaves no traces of glue after removal. If the tape is properly positioned and stored properly, it lasts 3 to 5 days.

The specific application of the elastic band to the surface of the skin according to the longitudinal anatomy of the body achieves the decompressive activity of the treated region. Kinesio tape is used in the treatment of all disorders / tensions that require rehabilitation. This rehabilitation technique, which uses a biomechanical stimulus through the effects of decompression and compression, to produce positive effects on the muscles, tendons and joints, improves the functioning of the vascular and lymphatic systems. By forming folds, the tape naturally lift the skin, facilitate venous and lymphatic drainage, improve blood circulation, and relieve pain.

Also, the correct application helps repair the joint lines, supports the muscles during movement and improves the stability and posture of the body as a whole.

This is an ideal technique for achieving a prolonged massage effect, and thanks to this feature, tapping has been given a different name – “the hands of the therapist”.
